I read this years and years ago and must have liked it because the title has stuck even if the details are murky. My niece asked for fantasy recommendations for her daughter who is 11 (and loves cats). Anyone care to comment on whether this would be appropriate for an 11 year old?

The main character is in a relationship with a man who is killed and there is a chapter early in the book where she thinks she may be pregnant (she isn't). There is a fair amount of killing in all of the Ghatti books and the main character is almost raped by one of her companions. It's not extremely descriptive and the Ghatti stop the act. The mind link between the Ghatti and their humans is beautiful and funny at times and sounds exactly like what a cat would say. Perhaps you or your niece could skim the book to know whether an eleven year old could handle some of the situations. Has your niece's daughter read The Warrior books? Although I have not read them I heard they are geared toward teens and pre-teens.(less)
