Michael Greer I can live with the life of Dante because it instructs everyone for all time about the only thing that really matters.

Ok, sorry for the obvious question - but is there enjoyment to be had from this novel if you have only a surface-level understanding of chess? i.e. I can point out the rook 'n' bishop and how they move but can't tell you a starting play for the life of me!
