Does Michael Connelly actually write his books? I've been on sort of a binge, and have noticed that each book is structurally very different. For instance, the chapters in Trunk Music are much longer than any of the first four books and it flows differently. It doesn't seem like the same person wrote all four, but maybe he experimented with different styles or worked with different editors...Anyway, just curious.

What was in the box that Harry left for chief Fitzgerald? It was towards the end of the book.

Bosch leveraged the tapes from Dom Carbone, when the two met in Bosch's car at the parking lot of Central Division, and Bosch told Carbone that Bosch and his team had surveillance video of Carbone breaking into Aliso's office at Archway.

And Bosch does not leave this box for (deputy chief) Fitzgerald -- he leaves it for the Chief of LAPD. Bosch is (anonymously) handing the Chief the tapes as proof that Fitzgerald conducted an illegal wiretap, so now the Chief can use the tapes against Fitzgerald. The two were rivals and Fitzgerald wielded threats of extortion against the Chief and other prominent city leaders in order to maintain wide latitude for OCID. Harry had previously agreed a deal with Fitzgerald that the tapes would remain secret, but Harry now will not honor that deal since Fitzgerald and Chastain had failed to honor their side of the deal.(less)
