Would it be feasible that chimps (forest-dwelling species) would evolve into cat-like, plains-dwelling predators? If the rain forests disappeared, than chimps would be killed by big cats and wild dogs.

They competed with big cats which were far more better suited to predation than us. We took a different approach by tiring-out and/or outsmarting our prey rather than out-running them like big cats. I would think chimps would take a similar evolutionary path given their preexisting social structures and intelligence.(less)
