Her one close connection (David) takes off fo…moreI think being a wife and mother in the 50-60s was basically like being a lifelong caregiver to everyone. Her one close connection (David) takes off for college and barely stays in touch. I feel sorry for the way mothers were used up and then left to figure out the next part of their life.

I kind of admired Mercy for trying to make her own lives when the kids leave. Her husband wasn’t interested in her interests. He wanted breakfast and dinner but never took the time to understand her desires. (less)

The "random guy" in the train station is her cousin, but she barely recognizes him & explaining that to her boyfriend is the hook that makes us want to find out why.(less)
