I really appreciated the honest and reverential way you depicted the Catholic faith and the devotion of the characters. This was a terrific novel in every sense. I even read word of the acknowledgments and had a secret wish that I would be listed as one of your friends! (no, I'm not a stalker, I simply just admire your life and work.) Will Anina appear in a future novel?

Why does the book begin and end in India with an elephant story when most of the book is about Italy?

They were jewelers, and maintained strong connections to the sources of the best gems. The story resonated with each generation, though the ending changed. Family stories are so important! When my godfather was dying he told us to make sure we keep telling the stories.(less)

So many good questions. Many I wanted to ask but thought I just didn't read carefully enough and missed something. I, too, thought a family tree would have been a good idea to keep everyone straight. I also wondered why Domenica burned the letters. I understand the value of storytelling, However, wouldn't the letters always be a source of truth? Loved this book. Thank you for your storytelling.
