I think while it IS heavy and has difficult themes, it is written in such a compelling and approachable way that I found myself drawn into the story and wanting to know what happened to all of the family members. It is NOT a dry read like some non-fiction books about systemic inequality. So I would caution folks against thinking this is "too depressing." It's heavy, for sure, but it's readable and important.
