The beginning is a mega review of the history of science of development, the end is Gould's own work on morphological relations to phylogeny. As someone who isn't specifically a morphological phylogeneticist, the first half was easier to read, however there is a glossary that can take anyone with dedication through the end of the book while teaching them a good deal.
