Is there a short story, novella, or even an interview that explains what happens between the end of Chaos and this one? Why are we no longer with the CFC? What happened to those who used to work for her, like Bryce? Marino and Dorothy were dating in Chaos, so I'm not concerned about their marriage, but I would like to know the rest.

Wasn't Kay and Marino in their 40's when the series started in 1990? Are they now still working and not retired in their 70's or have they been frozen in time?

On one, a reader breaks down the ages of each of the characters throughout the series, and many don’t line up. I have read each of the titles in the series, and have just come to accept what others have pointed out as inconsistencies. Before audiobooks, and e-readers, I literally counting the days for the newest title in the Scarpetta series. Many times I would read the book, cover to cover, sometimes in one sitting. For me, starting with a few titles before Chaos in 2016, the books started to lose their appeal, and certain predictabilities became tiresome, (Scarpetta always a victim or target in some sort of conspiracy, Scarpetta at odds with most every character, etc.) Sadly, I agree with many of the commenters, that, perhaps the Scarpetta series has run its course.(less)

What was the point of having a cat door into Scarpetta’s basement when the basement was closed off from the upper floors? If it was just for shelter the cat could just have used the cat door to Lucy’s nearby house. Was there mention of a cat door from the basement to the upper floors that I missed?

I won this book (“Autopsy”) Nov 1/21 in a Giveaway and have yet to receive it. I have requested it from the publisher twice and still nothing. Has anyone else not received their giveaway copy of this or any other book? P.S. I have won other Giveaway books in the past and they have all arrived in good time.
