The blurb makes this book sound like a complete rip-off of Elena Ferrante's saga "My Brilliant Friend". The only difference seems to be the geographical setting. Is that marketing backfire or the actual truth? Is there any original element that makes this novel worth reading?

The two girl's parents and spouses and organized crime play a more prominent role in this book compared to "My Brilliant Friend".(less)
