This book was powerful, moving, and spot on. Someone very close to me was abused by her mother. It's eerie, this book could be her life story. Without getting to personal, I'd like to ask the author if she was abused or know someone who was? I'm only asking because you really have to go through something to fully understand. If she didn't, I'd like to say WOW - you're good! I apologize if this offends you in any way.

I apologize that it has taken me so long to respond. I don’t get onto Good Reads as often as I should. I appreciate your question and I am in no way offended. Yes this story is both fact and fiction. It merges some of my own experiences with those of people I’ve known, while being fictionalized for the purpose of telling the story. For example, I have never been raped (thank God), but I do have friends who have been.
I hoped this story, though difficult, would help to bring some awareness; draw attention to another aspect of abuse. It was hard to write and I'm still not sure how to explain it to people, but it is very near and dear to my heart.(less)
