I highly recommend reading in order written , which means starting w practical magic, then reading the rules of magic, then magic lessons, then the book of magic. It makes the most sense if you read it in order written. (Chronological order is " lessons, rules, practical, book " but "book , rules, lessons, book" is the best order to have you care and learn about the characters.) (less)

Yeah, she changed out Michael’s death for that of the boy that was hit by lightning for Franny or Jet when they were little.

I’m also confused by them resetting Sally back into skeptical of magic and pretending like Kylie and Antonia haven’t felt love…both of the girls have sincere love stories in the first book and Sally ends the book kinda reaccepting magic in my memory (less)
