Would I have gotten more out of this book if I had read the previous Drenai stories? This was my first Gemmell novel, and while I enjoyed it, I felt there were references to past historical events that I didn't have familiarity with. Also, are any of these characters in previous Gemmell works? I enjoyed the style and will go back and start from Waylander at some point. Don't recommend this as your starting point

The first is Knights of Dark Renown - people don't realise it's a Drenai book because of how far in the past it is. I combed the book, but the only link I found was the Nadir - but they go by a different name.
So I guess it's completely missable, but I find it sets the tone for the rest of the series.(less)
