I've read the first 7 or 8 not in order and they were enjoyable all the same. Now that I'm re-reading all 14(!) in order, I can say that On the Loose is by far the best one Fowler's written (of the 8 I've read). So yes, you can read this without knowing a whole lot about the PCU, but fair warning, you will get sucked into Bryant & May's world.(less)
