Was anyone else as concerned as I was that she drank pond water? 🤢

Judith Drinking pond water is the least of her worries!

What is her obsession with Jonas? She doesn’t know him. She saw him a few summers in her childhood, but not in his teens. Then once alone as an adult for an hour before she got married. She doesn’t know him?! Sure he has a little crush on her, from when he was a much younger boy than her, but who is to say they would actually mesh as adults?

What was the significance of all the peeing? I've never read a book that focused so much on this. What was the symbolism here?

What are yalls thoughts on Wallace as a mother? I did not initially realize that Wallace thought Leo was the rapist opposed to Conrad (I just misread). But at the end when Elle straightens the story out with her mother and I realized that Wallace assumed it was Leo for all these years I was so angry that she had not tried to press charges, she thought that but let Leo walk free.

WHY did she call her mother “mum”? It drove me crazy and it was never addressed except the one time Elle called her “mom” and her mother said “you know I don’t like that”. Did I miss an important reference, like she was British? I certainly do not remember it being alluded to anywhere.

Do you think, other than Elle's strong sexual attraction to Jonas's sex, it is also her remembering the role he played in getting her to let Conrad's rope go when the three were sailing off Cape Cod and Conrad went under? (She would not want to feel like the only one responsible).

Is this book contains many erotic scene? If so, can i skip them?

Was anyone else bothered by how normally Elle was able to live on after *everything* that's happened to her in her youth?
