You will want to know the basics about the Continental Congresses, The Confederation Congress, and the Constitutional convention. Unless you are a genius, this book is not the place to begin learning about the American political thought.

It is, however, a great for the intermediate learner. I just finished it, and I am blown away by how little I actually understood before reading the book.
