Do you have to have read the Fatal series to understand the new State of Affairs book or can you just start with State of Affairs if you never read any Marie Force books?

The First Family series is a continuation of the Fatal series, but with a new twist, so if you skip the Fatal books, it would be like starting any series with the same main characters in the middle.
