It's great that you grew …moreSo, back in the day you really had to fight to be taken seriously, and when I say "back in the day" I am talking about 1995. It's great that you grew up with all these women and respected them. But, many did not. If you weren't one of these great women writers, and you were just some budding average "Jane" Shmo writer in some college chances are no one introduced to these writers and you had to find them yourself.
Nearly everyone in said college who was going to be a "serious" writer was a white dude. If you were into Sci-Fi at this college you were like a unicorn. Often a sexualized unicorn. Again this was 1995. So, yes, it is insulting, but not because the anthology had to write it was "dispelling the notion" but that there was indeed, very much, a notion in the first place. (less)
