In short: I read the first book of the series, and I enjoyed the story but not the writing. Does it get any better in the second book?

In the Epilogue, the storm of crows come back to the Wickan plain. The widow also has a child growing inside of her. I'm pretty certain this is Coltaine's spirit, but I want to be sure. What does everyone think?

I've read Gardens of the Moon and I loved it. I am currently reading Deadhouse Gates. It almost makes me not want to read the 3rd book because I do not like Deadhouse Gates at all... very boring and I feel like I missed something somewhere along the way. The first time I read Deadhouse Gates, I was right there with you. However, over time and having reread or listened to it multiple times, it has risen greatly in my esteem. Exactly how long is this book? Good reads lists it at 604 pages, yet I've seen people say it's about 1000 pages. I googled the question, and it told me 943 pages. So, 604 and 943 is a big difference.

I ordered both books from Amazon, and first book never arrived, and that was 2 months ago, tomorrow I'am ordering first book again, but as I live in small, not well known country I have to wait full month for it's arrival... so I was wondering can I start by reading book 2 (since it's on different continent) and then go back to first?
