I suppose there are the transcripts of their trials (which Nelson claims to have included pieces of pretty verbatim) but it's not like newspaper reporters were running around interviewing eighteenth century pirates, so there's not much to draw from there! I mean, since this is historical fiction rather than historical essay, there's certainly a lot of dialogue from Anne-the-character...but quotes that can be attributed to Anne-the-person? Well, possibly her few lines during the trial were quoted from the transcript, but other than that, it's just the "hang like a dog" line. As far as I know, anyway!(less)
