W.I.M.P. is a real life hypothesis for what dark matter actually is. It's use in the book is definitely science fiction, and they get a little more detailed about it closer to the end.
Perker comes from P.R.C. - Peoples Republic of China, _> PRC = PeRC -> Perk. I thought this was actually a pretty clever fictional use of language that mirrors how words change in real life over a relatively short time.(less)
