Hi, I see To Break a Covenant shelved as LGBT+, could someone tell me what rep it will have?

Siavahda The main character is a lesbian and her love interest is bisexual.

Can anyone clarify the timeline on this - when it's set and when the mine accident happened? It seems like it doesn't take place in the present (there are tapes and cordless phones, but no cellphones that I can remember), and the only dates I saw were on Mellie's tombstone, saying she died in 1964, but Clem's mother says when asked that she didn't know her, but that she "saw her around."

There are three editions of To Break a Covenant. But it says the original title is The Haunting of Moon Basin. Is that a mistake?

Some reviews state that the novel contains animal death. To what extent is this included and is it super gory? Dead/murdered animals are usually a pretty definite literary turn-off for me.

However, I was able to handle to body horror in this. Most of the real tension comes from the spookiness and dread rather than gore.

I just finished it, and quite enjoyed it. I'll try to answer to the best of my memory (I stayed up WAY too late reading because I couldn't put it down.)

Most of the references are about neighbors having lost their pets if they were left outside, presumably dragged off by wild coyotes. There is one scene where a one of the unfortunate pets is found dead; it's brief but you'd probably want to skip that.

In the one scene that vividly deals with a dead animal, it's a wild animal, we don't see it die, we don't know how or why it died. It's heartbreaking and creepy, and we know that it's image is <spoiler>being used as a hallucination to terrorize and warn the girl who sees it.</spoiler>
