I wondered who was the father of Lia’s father? Was it Jerome? I felt like I needed to know that. Also Estelle & Rachel were friends who transported soldiers to field hospitals near Metz. They then are in an apartment building living across the hall from each other in Paris. When did that happen? I liked the story but felt there were some missing pieces.

The author never tells us what happens to Estelle after she settles in Marseille France. Apparently she marries and has family otherwise there would be no Lia. That's the part that bothered me. It was like a whole chapter was missing. Loved the book. It really showed what Paris was like during the war and the struggles of the people who lived there. ?
