I think an older child (14 and up) who was fairly well-read and had a good command of written English would enjoy it. Since it was published in 1894, the style of English and much of the content will not be familiar to an American teen unless the reader is already accustomed to reading British literature from this period (e.g. Sherlock Holmes).(less)
