As with any series, it helps if you read the books in order. Not that events unfold in a way, that only sequential reading will make clear. Rather, starting from the beginning, gives you a much better understanding of many of the main characters. BUT, if you want to read it as a "stand alone" go for it. You'll love it!(less)

Qualcuno sa se il personaggio di Antonia, introdotto in questo romanzo, compare altrove, magari in qualche racconto? Negli ultimi due, e successivi, "Il cuoco dell'Alcyon" e "Riccardino" (scritto molti anni prima) non mi pare.
