They are partisan.
Now, conservatives could say the same about CNN and MSNBC (in fact, they do say that) but the extent to which Fox News is creating an alternative conservative reality is the problem.

This is especially a problem of the opinion shows (rather than the overshadows news shows, which do have some journalistic integrity).

Here's one example how Sean Hannity treated the outrageous news that Trump tried to fire the Special Counsel Robert Mueller who was at the time investigating, among other things, possible obstruction of justice on the of Donald Trump. Hannity first denied it, questioning the credibility of the NYT, then when that news apparently became undeniable he admitted quickly it, effectively called it no biggie and then pulled a "Oh look! A car chase!". See for yourself: https://twitter.com/MEPFuller/status/...
Another example would be how Tucker Carlson is parroting Russian propaganda to such an extent that Russian state TV (!) is airing segments of his these days leading up to and during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Here's an article from the British newspaper The Guardian from 25 February: https://www.theguardian.com/media/202...

These are just two examples of very many.
Actually, Stelter's book takes a deep dive into Fox News. One focus is the unhealthy feedback loop between Fox News and Trump, which shaped consequential political decisions, but the book covers a lot more.
Read it and you will understand some of the reasons why the channel has a bad reputation among many.(less)
