I'm wondering if anyone else was bothered by sloppy editing/writing? For instance, for instance, as the first murder is discussed one person is identified as the last to see the victim alive. There follows a multipage description of what the victim did after he and the identified "last person" parted, during which he comes in contact with any number of other people who saw and interacted with him.
