I didn't feel like they pushed the idea of communism at all, but just the "radical idea" that everyone deserves fair wages and to live a decent life. I also thought it was very interesting how they showed it both from the point of view of communist characters (although not very in-depth) and of the farmers (main point of view). I really liked it and think you can 100% read it without it having any political statements in itself(less)

Carolina People even nowadays do not know the difference, especially in the US. Everything remotely socialist is directly seen as communism. And you have to pu…morePeople even nowadays do not know the difference, especially in the US. Everything remotely socialist is directly seen as communism. And you have to put it in its historical context, where there was a strong wave of communism around the world, and they could often be demonized. I'm now actually wondering if they WA people ever really called themselves communists or if it's often from the farmers' point of view, because that would also be telling!(less)
