I was laughing to myself, remembering well the time I went to Subway and asked for a cheese-only sub, but of course, there's no such thing on the menu so they told me they didn't have it. Just like your meatball story, too funny! It so resonated. And the PB&J one as well. It's funny that you were able to get to the heart of the meatball thing ( extra charge). I always interpreted it as, the Japanese way of having to do things the Japanese way...without bending the rules or being flexible on seemingly simple requests.(less)
