Cabin at the End of the World punted on the ending. Survivor Song doesn't.

It's a very straightforward, timely book about a fast-acting, rabies-like virus outbreak. It features two main characters (both female, one pregnant and infected, the other a young doctor). It also has present tense narration, an odd choice. It's got a race-against-time plot (will the pregnant woman buy the farm?) that occurs mostly in real-time. The book feels a bit thin (like a padded novella), but there are plenty of tense horror scenes to please the fans. I read it in one day. It's like 28 Days Later meets Thelma and Louise. B-movie quality, but still a lot of fun.(less)
