I just realized this is the third in a series. Can it be read as a stand alone or does it need to be read in series order?

The second one has different characters in it, so you can skip, but just because it's truly awesome, you should read that too.(less)

This sounds fantastic, but I'm looking for reading material for grades 6-12. I see the tags mark this book as "adult," but would anyone be willing to weigh in on that? (TWs I can warn students about and provide summaries for, but if there's frequent explicit sexual content, say, I might have more trouble getting the OK from parents is all :) )
