Fifteen percent into the book and there has been zero mention of Covid - the school is going as normal, no online classes, no masks, no social distancing, absolutely nothing. One can only assume this doesn't take place during the pandemic. But now a teacher vomits and one kid says "Could be the 'rona" as in Corona (virus)? I'm so confused!

The author could have easily replaced it with food poisoning or anything else. If we're thinking the book takes place now - COVID + school setting = all the things we're dealing with now makes a lot of their school practices outdated. (less)
