I just saw this book recommendation but noticed it is #12 in a series (Kate Burkholder). My question is can this book "stand alone" or do you have to have read #1-11 first?

Miriam Kahn The books do stand alone because Castillo provides basic backstory. In this book, you learn more about Burkholder just after she leaves the Amish.
