are there substitutes for some of the ingredients as i'm guessing this book is American and i'm from the Uk so there are some things we don't have here that you do?

Any suggestions for making the Rocky Road Brownies work? My version had to be tossed, it never set. My guess is the culprit is the 1/2 cup of canola oil suggested.
