Sunset boulevard was my hundred acre wood growing up. The history and the content of the book is fascinating. However, does anyone feel the way I do about the writing i. e. long, often parenthetically interrupted sentences? The timeline even though chunked by "parts" seems to bounce around. I am not sure I would have the tenacity to stay with it if the time period and area did not parallel my life on Sunset Strip.

I did feel as though it was a bit dry reading at times, but I loved the antics & stories of the celebrities staying there.

I did feel as though the sentence structure was interrupted quite a lot, and I didn't even bother to read a lot of the footnotes because...more interruptions.

I didn't grow up anywhere near Sunset Blvd, and relied on google quite a bit to look at the strip during different eras. I don't know if being extremely unfamiliar with the setting and the location made a difference in my reading.... your thoughts on this are interesting though. Perhaps I felt like it was a bit of a slog because of the interrupted sentences.(less)
