As my reading progressed, so did my impression that the author and the presidents consider all newspapers strongly biased to one side or the other, often ferreting out presidential scandals to increase sales. I grew up knowing that the NY Journal-American was a Hearst mouthpiece, but nowadays don't we have some dailies who provide more straight facts than polemics?

And the writing of the news is generally objective. Other papers, notably the Washington Post and the NY Times, regularly use carefully worded phrases that push a political bias in what purport to be news stories. (less)
