This is the first book I have read in the series. I enjoyed it until Kate was raped. My question is about Kate, the protagonist, getting raped by her partner. What was the point of the rape passage? It seemed completely out of character for Kate and her partner, a state trooper. It was never addressed afterwards.

With that said, it seemed a little strange to me, too. But it wasn't exactly rape, because she participated, too. In earlier books, she didn't really like him and when they finally got together, it was always rather violent--on her end as much as his!(less)
