Will this fit with the series more than the last one? I realize it is a prologue, but the last one was so far removed in tone, topic, and approach that it did not really feel like part of the series.

It doesn't end *right* where Pillars begins (it spans from years 997 to 1007), but it definitely sets all the foundations for the Kingsbridge we see later on. And it has far more of the tight community focus than Column did.(less)

Am I the only reader who thinks this book was written by a ghost writer? It doesn't have the same level of prose to which I am accustomed from Follett. The glib use of cast away and modern phrases detracts from the narrative. For example, "Brindle leaped onto the raft.... In dog philosophy it was always better to go somewhere than to to be left behind." Or Ragna's frequent use of the phrase "I'd love to [something]."

Gregory I actually thought the same thing about World Without End. I enjoyed Evening and Morning, but really disliked World.
