I'm wondering if this book has any important more up to date information than Under the Influence by James Milam? That book was excellent but was written in the 1980's.

Besides being reader-friendly, I'd say it really has some pretty up to date information. Not just regarding the science of alcohol consumption and effects, but it's also a good drinkers' (or teetotallers', for that matter) handy-book when it comes to consuming wisely (or lack thereof).

Does this book include the chemistry of how the body digests ethanol? I'm interested in this aspect of alcohol. Does it explain whether the calories in ethanol contribute directly to weight gain?
ocsnl It does, in Chapters 1 and 6 respectively.
