Even when Angela Carter was still alive, many publishers put "retelling" or "adult versions of fairy tales" on the synopsis, but this is a misleading impression. She said, "My intention was not to do "versions" of fairy tales, but to extract the latent content from the traditional stories and to use it as the beginnings of new stories."(less)
