Letting a child read what she wants is in a different category from recommending to that child a book to read. As a grandmother, I know my teenage grandchildren read a wide variety, and they read what they want to read. But I am not going to recommend or give them a book that I feel is inappropriate. In my opinion you're being a bit pedantic and judgemental.(less)

I d…moreDepends why you couldn't finish Eragon. I loved both. They felt different but I could see parallels between the two stories and the writing style. I don't think the female protagonist is a trope and as far as I'm concerned she earned the title of strong female lead. It's definitely a long book that doesn't shy away from getting into some details, but generally manages to keep a pretty good pace and remain reasonably easy to parse. Far better than some other sci-fi books I've read. (less)
