Because of the shock that the Trump presidency caused.

Trump pretended to be a Democrat all his life. But said he would run as a Republican because they were easy to fool.

Then he took over the Republican Party in about a decade. This guy never forgot Trumps two faced nature. This intellectual dishonesty mixed with his parties support of Trump demonstrated that "Conservative values" were mostly platitudes. Not deeply held personal beliefs that the right would stand up for.

These "shocking" (predictable in my opinion) revelations caused him to look inward and asses his party for what it was. A group of mostly racist opportunists that will defend whatever belief it takes to gain power.(less)
