This book focuses on a discussion of the value-form (as found in the first chapter of Marx's "Capital") through the lens of Saussure and structuralism. Some knowledge of the "canon" of structuralism - Marx, Freud, Saussure, Levi-Strauss, Derrida - will be help you get through this book, but you can also definitely read this book without much prior knowledge of the subjects it covers if you are willing to take occasional breaks to look stuff up on Wikipedia and Google.(less)
