When I was young I read a fair number of fairytales, most or all of which cast women in the weak, submissive roles with men as the heroes. Katherine Paterson's Rosamund in The King's Equal proves not to fit the old mold - to everyone's benefit. If I had daughters and granddaughters, I'd make sure they each got a copy of this book!(less)
