Did you feel that Anne Carson's upgrading to current vernacular (particularly in the Orestes) was a plus or minus? I personally found it interesting, but felt it distracted somewhat to have Orestes and Elektra mouthing current overused phrases (like "Weapons of mass destruction" and "gone to shit"). Like I say, interesting to increase relate-ability, but distracting. I found this very readable, a page-turner.

I didn't find her translations to be distracting, in fact, this format gave me a jumping off point into the genre as a whole and made me start thinking about how translation changes text and meaning. Hopefully it isn't the start and end of a readers experience with the material, but if it is, I think Carson does it justice. (less)
