Sabriel (character) does not play a major part in Lirael (book).

Is anyone else confused about the timeline and the relative ages of the two protagonists? When we first meet Lirael, she's 14, and then we switch to Sameth, who is 16. Then we go back to Lirael, and she's now 19, and then we switch back to Sameth, and he's now 17, or two years YOUNGER than Lirael.
