Why didn't Hemingway publish the book ? - it's a masterpiece , giving that the book was FOUND seemingly FINISHED , why didn't he publish it ??? -it's speaks Hemingway beautifully !!! he could've used it especially when he received such negative reviews . so why didn't he just publish the bloody book ? -i've read some reviews on how Hemingway probably didn't find it good enough. but i humbly disagree. then why ???

I've read several of Hemingway's novel and all of his short stories and this is my favorite, no doubt. As Richard Lawrence said, being a father gives us some insight in what Thomas Hudson experiences.(less)

On the last page of the book Willie tells Thomas, "Try and understand if it isn't too hard." Thomas replies, "I think I understand." After, Willie says, "Oh shit. You never understand anybody that loves you." I missed something. Can anyone tell me what Willie wants Thomas to understand?
