I see this book covers the 1920s. Deborah Blum's book, the Poisoner's Handbook, also covers the 1920s, but in New York City. Both books claim to tell the story of men who were the "first CSIs" and had the "first forensic labs." They can't both be first. So who was the real pioneer, Heinrich or Norris and Gettier?

Heinrich made inroads as far as ballistics, blood spatter patterns, geological identification, etc., whereas Norris and Gettier seem to be focused more on toxicology. (less)
