I was most fascinated about her story regarding the famous painting of Napoleon crowning Josephine empress. It is quite famous, but now I look at it with new eyes.(less)

Was anyone curious about the scene where they play a game in the dark and Napoleon tries to catch them. Desiree feels Josephine and suddenly lands in Napoleon's arms. Was anyone else confused by this? Why would Josephine want Desiree near her husband? Especially with Josephine and Desiree being friends, I was shocked by this behavior.

Maureen I think it was a message to Napoleon that she was completely aware of his pst and not the perfect person he claimed to be.

As long as the factual historical investigation is correct, who cares whether an author has read other works about the same topic. If anything, that might more easily open them up to charges of plagiarism. There can never be too many books about the same topic/person.(less)

I loved this book, but did anyone else notice a historical error? She refers to Quebec as part of New France. (P. 255) By this time, Quebec was no longer New France. It was part of a British colony.
