How much of this book is about the topic of acting and being a star and how much about the mother-daughter relationship? I´m more interested in the former topic and not sure if the book is for me or maybe to "literary".

It is as much about the mother as a woman, an actress and a sheer individual, as it is about the daughter, who narrates. The accounts of what it is to act, to be on stage, to survive are essential to the story. .... oh it is extremely well written - don't know about "literary".

The trouble is, even though I love theatre, the book left me cold. Did other people find it a heavily over-written book that was unemotional and heavily written?

Keith Costelloe Over written. Totally. A pity cos I love theatre and acting but it got lost in all the mass of detail.
